Photograph of Captain W T Gregg from the Royal Irish Fusiliers in 1915.

William Thornton Huband Gregg, later Colonel Gregg OBE, was born in Oldtown, County Longford on 12 July 1886.

He served in the Royal Irish Fusiliers in Africa in 1917, and was later awarded a French Croix de Guerre with Palms and a Distinguished Service Order in the 1918 New Year Honours.

He lived at Ballyknockane House in Clonmel, County Tipperary for some time.

A debate was held in Dáil Éireann in July 1955 about potentially redistributing his estate in Tipperary, given his role as County Commandant with the Ulster Special Constabulary.
