SS Sarcoxie, Cork
Title
SS Sarcoxie, Cork
Description
The American SS Sarcoxie, later the Alcoa Ranger, docked on the River Lee at Anderson's Quay in Cork.
The structure on the left is the upper works of the Brian Boru Bridge: a bascule bridge. That bridge and the matching Clontarf Bridge were built as part of Cork City Railways linking the Glanmire Road and Albert Quay stations. The bridges were fixed in the 1970s and the upper works removed. You can also see the rails and one of the gates that would have been closed when the bridges opened to shipping. Thanks to Colm Moore for the above information.
